I've waited eight years to see Glay, so I took this opportunity to take a break from life and head out to L.A. to see them play.

I went to both LA shows and both were amazing. They played a good set. A few songs off their latest album, but mostly crowd pleasing favorites from throughout the last 15 years of their career. My all time favorite was/is Shutter Speeds no Teema when Jiro (bass) gets to take over the stage and shine.

I was surprised by the amount of English Teru (vocals) spoke. And it wasn't just memorized English that I've seen from other Japanese artists, but when he made errors he knew it and was able to compensate. Impressive.

The venue played was House of Blues on Sunset Strip. It is fairly small stage, so the set wasn't as elaborate as would be seen in Japan and Glay wasn't as dressed up as they might be, but they also weren't dress down. Hisashi (lead guitar) was looking spectacular with a one sleeved jacket and a fishnet shirt. Though, I was sadly disappointed that he wasn't showing this legs as he's done in the past. Jiro was also looking great as always and as stated by an author of the SFWeekly.com blog All Shook Down, "I was so distracted by how ridiculously adorable the bass player was that I may have, um, missed some of what the other guys were doing." I think that says it all.

(left to right) Takuro (guitar, leader) Jiro (base) Teru (vocal, tamborine) Hisashi (guitar)

Set List of The House of Blues Sunset Strip at Aug. 15th

1.VERB
2.YUWAKU
3.GLORIOUS
4.IKITEKU TSUYOSA
5.GIANT STRONG FAUST SUPER STAR
6.STARLESS NIGHT
7.AMERICAN INNOVATION
8.Lock on you
9.SORRY LOVE
10.HOWEVER
11.ROCK'N'ROLL SWINDLE
12.MERMAID
13.SHUTTER SPEEDS NO THEMA
14.PEAK HATESHI NAKU SOUL KAGIRI NAKU
15.BEAUTIFUL DREAMER

Encore
1.Winter,again
2.KUCHIBIRU

3.KANOJO NO "Modern..."
4.ACID HEAD

Set List of The House of Blues Sunset Strip at Aug. 16th

1.VERB
2.YUWAKU
3.GLORIOUS
4.IKITEKU TSUYOSA
5.GIANT STRONG FAUST SUPER STAR
6.STARLESS NIGHT
7.AMERICAN INNOVATION
8.Lock on you
9.SORRY LOVE
10.HOWEVER
11.ROCK'N'ROLL SWINDLE
12.MERMAID
13.SHUTTER SPEEDS NO THEMA
14.PEAK HATESHI NAKU SOUL KAGIRI NAKU
15.BEAUTIFUL DREAMER

Encore
1.Winter,again
2.KUCHIBIRU
3.KANOJO NO "Modern..."
4.HIGHCOMMUNICATIONS

W-Encore
1.ACID HEAD

But no, unfortunately it felt like that was more than true.... sigh...

On the note of really warm temperatures, I left work early this Tuesday with a fever. It's June and 100 plus degrees outside. Now, why would I need a fever when I can go sit outside and burn whatever it is away without feeling sick. Nonsense, I say, pure utter nonsense.

Adventures at the DMV

The thought of owning the car I paid for sounded like a good idea, so I made a trip to the DMV today to get a drivers license and register and title the vehicle in my name. I've been the to DMV before, a couple of weeks ago, to get a permit for my car while I was waiting on the title from the party I bought it from. It's a pretty organized place. You go in, tell them what you need, and they give you a number based on what that is. Different windows specialize in different needs and when they call your number they already know what you will ask for, so things go fairly smoothly. It's a busy place, so it's still a bit of the wait, but its organized and not that bad. Unless you have more than one thing you need.

Today I needed to get a drivers license and transfer the title. I was in over my head. When I get there, I explained to the lady at the front desk what two things I needed, and she gave me a ticket to get a license. It seemed all fine and good;I sat down and waited and waited. Eventually I was called. A very nice lady set me up with a new drivers license, but said she couldn't register my vehicle and that I had to get in anther line. WTF, mate. Regardless, I go back to the front desk and get another ticket and waited out another length of forever. This time when I went to my window, the lady was confused. What I was asking for wasn't what the ticket was. But after grumbling to herself for a few seconds, she went ahead and titled my car anyway, which I appreciated. There was no way I was going to wait in line again.

I don't think I did a very good job describing how tragic this was, but I will now. It was tragic.

Yesterday I bought a sewing machine. I ended up with the Kenmore 16231 made by Janome. It's a mechanical machine, while most of the machines on the market today are electronic or computerized. While those machines are supposed to be quality, I find it hard to trust them. I like the feeling of when I turn the dial to change stitches I can hear and feel that the parts have moved, rather than pushing a button and hoping that the electronics did there job. Also, I know the type of people that design hardware and those that program it, which makes me all the more feel that a good old mechanical one will do me better.

I don't know what aspirations for sewing are just yet. I think mainly I'm planning to make stuff for my apartment. Chair covers, curtains, etc. It should be fun.

There is an article in the Japan Times today about tetrapods. Apparently, little cement buggers that line the coasts of Japan were originally developed by the French and the TETRAPOD is trademarked by the Japanese company Fudo Tetra.

A lot of people don't care for them and think that they destroy the beauty of Japans coast, but I, like a few other people, kind of like them. I think they have an artistic feel to them.

In pondering on tetrapods for the last few minutes, I found myself wondering if there has ever been an anime about tetrapods or involving them some way. Maybe they are actually robots or alien creatures that have been lying dormant for the past decades and finally come alive to destroy Tokyo, or something of that nature.

    <lj:music>OOIOO - UMA</lj:music>

I moved down to Arizona a couple weeks ago. I started my job on Monday. I work in a large room with about 20 cubicles. About seven of them are occupied. This last week since there was a holiday, there were an average of three people in there are a given time, including myself. It's strange. I don't know if I like it. The room is a 'holding cell' for people while they await clearance. So, I'll be there for three or so months. Most of the other new hires are in another building while they wait, but they are all together so they can socialize and have fun and the such.

I'm almost all moved into my apartment. I keep on finding things wrong with it. The deadbolt on the balcony wouldn't lock when the door was closed. The A/C wouldn't cool anything beyond 85 degrees, usually 90. The microwave doesn't heat anything. I got a lemon of an apartment. Fortunately the management is decent. So far everything has been fixed soon after I complain.

I finally had to buy a car. I wanted a Civic, Accord or a Mazda3 5-door. Something slightly used. Apparently Mazda3s and Civic are too popular in that a 2005 is practically the same price of an '07, which defeats the purpose of buying a used car to get a depreciated price, and Accords I decided were out of my price range for what I wanted to spend on my first car. I decided I didn't want to bother higher car payments.

I ended up with a used 2007 Scion tc for well below the KBB value. I found it while apartment hunting. It was for sale in the lot in front or a unit I was looking at. Apparently, the guy bought it for his fiance and well he was selling it... So far the car has been good to me and I like it well enough, though there are some little things about it that bother me.

In the last twenty-four hours I've received three written apologies. They were all from different people for different reasons, none of which were really necessary, though there was one I did appreciate.

I'm not sure how to respond to such things. It's kind of awkward, and there is usually more meaning to it than what is said. I just don't know sometimes.

I'm waiting for school to start... I miss people.

Though, I have to admit that this summer turned out pretty good, far superior to the last. There have been a lot more people around to hang out with and a lot of people that I never would have met otherwise. Another thing is the folks around this time are a lot more active and interested in having fun. The girls I lived with were both runners, along with the guys across the hall, this motivated me to start running on a regular basis, again. I've forgotten how much I enjoy a good run. There was also a group this summer that plays soccer once (or twice) a week. The sport I grew up with and by far my favorite. After going out for soccer a while, I joined them for Ultimate. Personally I don't care much for the game, though it was grown on me.

Last week/end I moved into my apartment. I have a nice view of a corn field (yay!...). I'm looking forward to living off campus this year, it's nice to get away from school every once in a while. I always knew that a lot of Rose people lived here, but I am surprised how many people I recognize in my court. It should make for good times.

<lj:music>Feye Wong - Eyes On Me (Almighty mix)</lj:music>

Yesterday I went to Indy with some friends/acquaintances. We walked along the Canal to get to the center of town. On the way we passed Indiana State Museum. The building is pretty cool. Along the outer walls of the museum are artwork from the 92(?) counties of Indiana each with a small plaque. For some reason not all the counties have artwork yet, but they all have plaques. After walking around for a while and being thoroughly indecisive, we ate dinner at The Slippery Noodle. The food was pretty good, though we were too early to see the live jazz.

Then some more indecisiveness happened... and we headed to Circle Centre. It was the first time I've been there. It's a pretty nice mall. Reminds me of home...

Then occurred a really long time of indecisiveness. We ended up piling six people into a sedan and heading to Broad Ripple. First we went to The Vogue. The club is pretty nice. We initially showed up too early and caught the end of a bad concert. Since we got hand stamped, we wanted to hit up some other place for a while, until dance club started. The man at the door said it's "the greatest thing on earth" and once it starts there will be a line out the door. To this we decided to go back and chill inside to avoid a line later on. To pass the time we played UNO upstairs. Blue and green look very similar in low lighting. To fix this we played with three colors: red, yellow, and blue/green. I think it made the game too easy. Once dance club started things picked up and we all hit the dance floor. It was fun. The club had good atmosphere and music. I'd definitely go back.

The Vogue was the first club that I've been to in America. One thing that suck out to me that differs from the clubs I've been to in Japan is that I can't pretend that I don't speak Japanese, English, or whatever language is being spoken to me to avoid confrontation with someone. If some old man comes up to me in Japan, as a foreigner I don't have speak Japanese, and just because I'm white doesn't mean I know English. While I didn't come across a situation last night, it's still rather nice to be able to do.

I've been trying to finish Kafka on the Shore, but I've been distracted by annoying friends and NANA.

NANA is a great story, it's about beautiful people, kind of like Paradise Kiss. The manga is just now being released here in the states. Beyond the manga, it has an anime series, PS2 game, and two movies (live action). I'm really excited that its finally coming out here.

I'm about a third of the wat through Kafka on the Shore. So far it has been really good and rather interesting. When I'm finished I'll probably share some thought.
